Lladro’TM figurines
Lladro’ figurines have become a world famous name in collectible porcelain figurines for half a century.
Lladro’ figurines have preserved an entirely hand-crafted and hand-painted method of manufacturing all through its long history. Over 4000 of these magnificently carved porcelain art creations bear the name of Lladro’ figurines.
Lladro’ figurines was conceived by three brothers; Juan, Jose’ and Vicente Lladro’ from a modest farming family background in 1953. The company of Lladro’ figurines started out in a small artisan studio workshop in the village of Almacera near Valencia in northern Spain.
After building a kiln in the family’s backyard, and experimenting with different formulas of pigments, varnishes, firing times and temperatures, they were finally content with their porcelain mixture. Lladro’ figurines still uses this exceptionally high quality formula in their elegant sculptures today.
These manufacturing and glaze ingredients which gives the Lladro’ figurines their unique porcelain characteristics are a tightly guarded industry secret that allows no two pieces to be exactly identical.
The first works they created were jugs and vases which they sold locally. In 1956 they started fashioning the Lladro’ figurine sculptures for which they are now worldwide celebrated. The enthusiasm for Lladro’ figurines cased the small workshop to expand over the next few years to accommodate the growing demand for these outstanding figurines.
Finally in 1958 Lladro’ figurines moved to Tavernes Blanques. Wanting to share their expertise, the brothers of Lladro’ figurines opened The Professional Training School in 1962, to keep their dreams and philosophy alive in present and future generations of artists. Every Lladro’ figurine creation begins with an artistic inspiration and is the result of a meticulously labor intense process.
In 1965 the first of Lladro’ figurines, called “The Shepherdess” were shipped to North America and awestruck everyone immediately.
After two years of designing and construction the Spanish Minister of Industry opened the City of Porcelain, for Lladro’ figurines in October 1969, having offices, showrooms, factories, and kilns that cover 100,000 square feet. All of this provides the 2000 plus artists of Lladro’ figurines the best encouraging work environment for the production of their highly collectible exquisite masterpieces.
Lladro’ figurines decides to expand in 1973, they buy 50% of Weil Ceramics & Glass, an American company.
The Elite Collection is introduced and the first bell flower blue emblem, showing its origin, appeared on Lladro’ figurines in 1974.
One child of each of the founding brothers, Danielle, Mari Carmen and Juan Vicente joined the company in 1984. They assumed their responsibilities in Lladro’ figurines after undergoing an extensive apprenticeship. Lladro’ figurines
remain a family owned business to this day, The Lladro’ Museum and Gallery was opened in September 1988, on 57th Street, Manhattan, New York City, New York, displaying some of Lladro’ figurines’ finest works.
