Snowbabies figurines are among some of the most increasingly popular and affordable interior décor figurines in today’s market.
Snowbabies figurines both “new” and “old” have enticed collectors of all ages from all over the world.
The first of these bisque snow baby figurines primarily depict children in winter activities. They were superbly detailed, characteristically three inches or more high, and embellished with a grout that made it look like white snow on their colored snowsuits.
The very earliest figurines of snowbabies were individually and meticulously hand painted by German artists and made in small quantities, starting roughly in the beginning of 1905. These antique snowbabies figurines are undoubtedly the most treasured and desired by bona fide collectors.

The much more plentiful and mass produced German bisque figurines of snowbabies that are smaller came after WW1, dating in the 1920’s and 1930’s. They were typically less than three inches, and included winter settings of snowmen, elves, animals, children and even Santa. Some figurines of snowbabies were produced in Japan during this time period but were on average of much lesser quality.
There are snowbabies figurines that were produced after WWII, some used earlier poses and numerous others used new imaginative creations, but these were made without consideration to quality and lack attention to detail or finish. Yet one estimate put the number of these variations in excess of 2000.

Occurring since around the middle on the 1990’s, there has been a sudden increase in new German figurines of snowbabies that uses old molds and look astonishingly like the originals. The quality is so superior that dealers and collectors alike are having difficulty in distinguishing the difference, so do your research if you anticipate acquiring one of these oldies.
Entering a new era of snowbabies, in 1986 when Department 56, a United States company introduced their new line of bisque hand painted figurines. Kristi Jensen Pierro created a line of collectible figurines portraying scenes of young children frolicking in the snow. They were inspired by her own children and she called them snowbabies.

An alteration of the traditional snowbabies collection of figurines was introduced in 1994 and they were called snowbunnies. They are just like snowbabies characters, except they have bunny ears, rather like snowbabies for spring and Easter.
Like all collectible figurines, snowbabies are released each year and after a given time they are retired. Some snowbabies figurines are released as special editions, still others in limited quantities, plus the popular guest collection which included Disney characters, Wizard of Oz, Dr. Seuss, Barbie, Santa and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to mention just a few.
While most of today’s snowbabies figurines are generally affordable a few of the retired collectible ones can get pricey, mainly due to the rarity of the piece.
Whatever your home décor you are sure to find one or maybe even a collection of these beautiful figurines from snowbabies to fulfill a secret dream. Happy shopping for your very own exquisite snowbabies figurines.
